This spiritual biography of Oliver’s life was written by the Moravian Elders after his death and provides key insights on slavery and race relations in the Moravian community. Although Oliver was seen as spiritually equal to his white Brethren, he remained the Church’s property and therefore lived a life of bondage. However, Oliver was able to use his talents as a potter to eventually buy his own freedom.
